Update door Deng Yao – 2 maanden later

Deng Yao, die ook al eerder een verhaal schreef, geeft hier een update:
More than two months have past since the earthquake happened on May 12. Now the main task for the quake zone is reconstruction.

My relatives, like those people in other quake zones, all begin to revive to their normal life gradually. In Dujiangyan (near Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan）, thousands of mobile houses have already been built for living, for schools and for hospital for 3 years. Shops (usually stands), teahouses, restaurants reopen again. Various vegetables and food can be bought in markets. The streets become crowded again. People of different occupations start to work as usual.

For my family. They don’t live in tents or the mobile houses anymore and just simply repair the rooms which were lightly damaged and live there. Because the mobile houses are so hot. Besides, they get used to living in the countryside. Therefore, the government pays 2000 yuan (about 200 euros) to each household of them. Now my grandparents begin to raise pigs and chickens and grow vegetables again. My brother will go to school on September 1 and study in the mobile classroom. My aunt, who delivered her baby in my hometown in May already, went back to Dujiangyan. Her baby is already 66 days old and grows healthily. The government gave them a lot of relief materials, including food, clothes, shoes and other daily necessities. Moreover, also pays everyone 10 yuan per day for 3 months.

After 3 years, the new permanent houses will be finished. For urban citizens, each household will be provided with an appartment of 75 m2. Farmers, like my relatives, will have two choices. They can either choose to live in the appartment with 35m2 per person for each household, but give up the land where they live now or choose to live in the countryside so that the government will give each household a piece of land of 35m2 per person and 16,000 yuan to build their houses by themselves.

For example, my uncle’s family has 4 members,if they choose to live in the appartment built by the government, they will leave the place where they are living now and get an appartment with an area of 140㎡.If they do not want to live there,they will get a piece of land of 140㎡ and 16,000 yuan to build house , at the same time ,they can also apply for a interest free loan from a bank.

Now ,they sleep in the repaired house,cook in the courtyard,but they said they felt happy because they got so much attention and help from others. They are optimistic about their future life.
